Dragonsnakes are long ferocious creatures native to the swamps of Dagobah. They are well armored with razor fins, and have rows of sharp fangs in their mouths. Dragonsnakes used their wide tails to propel them through their watery habitat; their long arms are mostly used for digging or grasping. The dragonsnake is a patient predator, usually lying in wait under the water until its prey wandered too close to the water's edge. Lashing out with fins and fangs, the dragonsnake will drag its victim underwater, coiled in its body, until it drowned.
R2-D2 became a dragonsnake's unlikely victim when he accompanied Luke Skywalker to Dagobah to learn from the wise Jedi Master Yoda. When Luke's X-Wing got stuck in the so-called Dragonsnake Bog, Artoo fell from the hull and was devoured by a dragonsnake. Finding the droid indegestible, the creature spat Artoo out of its mouth, sending him crashing down into the jungle.
Dragonsnakes are known to fight the monstrous swamp slugs of Dagobah. Even if devoured by the giant beasts, dragonsnakes can gnaw through the swamp slug's stomach and burst out of its belly.
